This is the thread where we take good cards and compare them on all possible levels to find out only one thing: which is better? Allow me to open up the debate with a couple of cards I spent some time thinking about.
Ancient Gear Golem V Cyber Ogre 2
These two cards are both Ultra Rare cards, so they're even on that ground. Both monsters are Earth attribute Machine type monsters, so they each benefit from support cards for that attribute/type. Ancient Gear Golem on the other hand, has Ancient Gear support cards like Ancient Gear Castle and Ancient Gear Factory to help it out, whereas Cyber Ogre 2 can only be fused with two Cyber Ogres. The ease of summoning is very difficult to take into consideration for these two cards. For one, the Ancient Gear Golem can only be Normal Summoned, which as we can all agree, only hurts the card. Cyber Ogre 2 can only be fusion summoned, which seems pretty easy, but it is not so. Think about it: to summon Cyber Ogre 2, you need two Cyber Ogres and Polymerization in your hand. That's three specific cards, whereas the Ancient Gear Golem can be normal summoned with any two tributable monsters/tokens, and even has the help of Ancient Gear Factory and Ancient Gear Castle to make it even easier.
Next, we must check out the stats of these monsters. The Ancient Gear Golem wins this battle with its impressive 3000/3000 score, whereas the Cyber Ogre 2 fails in both attack and defense with a paltry 2600/1900 score. However, if we go into battle between these two monsters, the victor is decided soley on which one attacks first. If the Ancient Gear Golem attacked first, Cybe Ogre 2's effect won't kick in, allowing the Gear Golem the victory. If Cyber Ogre 2 attacks first, its effect will kick in, and will gain 1500 attack, making its attack score a very impressive 4100; Cyber Ogre 2 wins. On the battle front, the match is even.
Finally, since both cards are effect monsters, we must compare the effects. Ancient Gear Golem's attack cannot be stopped by Quick Play Spells or Traps; so Limiter Removal, Sakuretsu Armor, Mirror Force, Magic Cylinder, Draining Shield, and more, do not affect it. Moreover, the Ancient Gear Golem deals piercing battle damage, meaning that it guarentees damage whenever it swings its mighty fist. Cybe Ogre 2 on the other hand, has the impressive Metalmorph effect built in, meaning that it can defeat any monster in the game in terms of original attack points. However, this effect only works when it is the Cyber Ogre 2 doing the attacking. This may be a detriment to the awesome Cyber Ogre 2, but hey, we can't be pickt; Cyber Ogre 2's effect is great. Matching them together, we can see that Cybre Ogre 2's attack, while very powerful, can be stopped, whereas the Ancient Gear Golem is practically guaranteed to deal damage when it attacks.
In the end, these cards are very even, but when it comes to the effect and original attack points, not even mentioning the ease of summoning, the Ancient Gear Golem wins out. I'm going to mention that I do have an Ancient Gear deck, and I have succeeded in summoning the Ancient Gear Golem more times than I have the Cyber Ogre 2. I still love both cards, and use them both in my deck, but if one has to win, it has to be Ancient Gear Golem!
Now, discussion time! Do you agree with me? Why or why not? What didn't I cover that can be taken into consideration? I would love to hear everything you have to say.
